Baldur's Gate 3 Races Full Release 2023
Character race is a crucial component of any Dungeons & Dragons experience that is equal in importance to classes, and Baldur's Gate is not afraid to address it. Although there were quite a few races to pick from in the series' earlier games, there are a few more races in the official Baldur's Gate 3 release. Some of them are the standard vanilla races seen in all contemporary role-playing games, while others are usually exclusive to tabletop RPGs. Regardless, there's a good possibility that each of these races in Baldur's Gate 3 will let you create the high-fantasy character of your dreams.

Today, we look at the confirmed races you can select when creating your Baldur's Gate 3 character. Players in the game have a choice of 11 races from Dungeons & Dragons. You can choose from a variety of subraces, and each has its own history. The characters also receive some stat benefits based on their subraces. Having said that, the Baldur's Gate 3 races are listed below:

Elf

In Baldur's Gate 3, players can select an Elf as their race, a standard figure in every fantasy game. Elves are skilled, earning +2 points for dexterity as a race characteristic. They are also skilled with the longbow, shortbow, shortsword, and longsword. Additionally, if you select them, you can choose between two sub-races:

High Elf: High Elves are the descendants of the Feywild and favour magic in all of its manifestations. If you choose them as a sub-race, you get an extra +1 intellect because they are also academics. Additionally, due of their intelligence, this will cause your character to lean more towards magic.

Wood Elf: Quick on their feet and more in tune with nature, wood elves are. As a result, they move more quickly. The "Mast of the Wild" gave wood elves their talent for stealth. Finally, thanks to the additional wisdom point, they can move closer to casting various kinds of divine spells.

Tiefling

Tieflings have a wicked look, whether it takes the shape of horns, tails, red skin, or other hellish features. They are descendants of live people who made a deal with a powerful devil in some way. They can, however, control their disposition. Tieflings are endearing people that add +2 charisma and perform better on charisma checks.

There are three subraces of tieflings. The sub-races are determined by the devil that their forefathers swore an oath to:

Asmodeus Tiefling: People who made a bargain with the devil Asmodeus are the ancestors of Asmodeus Tieflings. Players that take this subclass receive a +1 intellect bonus and are able to perform Asmodeus spellcasting during battle.

Mephistopheles Tiefling: These Tieflings are the offspring of those who made a pact with the demon Mephistopheles. They have an intelligence bonus of one and are capable of casting Mephistopheles spells.

The Zariel Tiefling subclass grants players +1 strength and allows them to use Zariel spellcasting since these Tieflings' ancestors made a deal with the devil Zariel.

Drow

The Drow are the exact opposite of the Elf race in Baldur's Gate 3, which tends towards the positive or neutral positions. Due to the influence of the spider goddess Lolth—not Lilith, as seen in Diablo 4—these elves journeyed into the Underdark and turned wicked. Drows gain +2 dexterity since they bring the elves' dexterity with them.

Drows also have +1 charisma because they are charismatic people. Drows can pick between two different subraces:

Drows who have made Lolth their god are known as Lolth-Sworn Drows. Although they don't get an ability increase, choosing to play as this subrace will occasionally provide you some interesting dialogue options.

Selderine Drow: These Drows traverse Faerun in search of allies and to put a stop to the battle between Lolth and others once and for all. They have rejected the blessings and influence of Lolth. Similar to the preceding subclass, Selderine Drows do not get any additional abilities.

Human

Humans are the most prevalent race in Faerun and are present in practically every society in the cosmos, making them the most generic class in any RPG like Baldur's Gate 3. Humans have a +1 on all skills despite not having any subclass specialisation because, well, they are only one species. Being able to master any of the numerous classes in the game makes them the most adaptable race in Baldur's Gate 3.

Githyanki

A race that I find annoying due to their haughty demeanour, and that irritation doesn't really go away even if you have Lae'Zel in your party (a notable companion in Baldur's Gate 3). The Astral Plane soldiers known as Githyanki are distinguished by their crimson dragon mounts. They are skilled fighters who despise Mind-Flayers for centuries of slavery of their kind. They therefore aim to completely destroy them.

Githyanki lacks a subclass, however they do acquire +1 proficiency in intelligence and +2 proficiency in strength. Githyanki is also an expert with short, long, and greatswords as well as light and medium armour.

Dwarf

You may be familiar with this class if you have seen well-known fantasy series like Middle Earth or perhaps Snow White. Dwarves are experts in the constitution and receive a +2 bonus. They also excel at using the Warhammer, Light Hammer, Battleaxe, and Handaxe. Dwarves are separated into three sub-races, similar to how classes are divided in Baldur's Gate 3:

Gold Dwarfs have a strong sense of self-assurance and intuition. Family, ritual, and excellent craftsmanship are important to Gold Dwarves. As a result, they have Dwarven Toughness and an additional +1 knowledge proficiency.

Shield Dwarf: After several battles with goblins, these dwarves have grown more jaded and severe. They are steadfast in rehabilitating their homesteads, nevertheless. Dwarves with shields gain a +2 to their strength.

Druegar: Not yet accessible are any specifics. Once the update is out, we will update it.

Half-Elf

As the name implies, the half-elf race in Baldur's Gate 3 has one human parent for every two elves. The elves are the rightful owners of their family's other half. They thereby incorporate flexibility from the human aspect of their capacity. Half-Elf receives a +2-charisma bonus and 2 points to use towards any selected ability. Three sub-classes are further separated into this class:

Drow Half-Elf: These elves are the result of a union between a drow and a human. Given their nature, Seldarine Drows are typically the ones who connect humans. They don't get a boost to their abilities in any other way. They can, however, also cast Drow spells.

High Half-Elf: Similar to Drow elves, High Half-Elves are made up of two families, one of which is high elf and the other human. A single wizard cantrip is the only additional ability boost they get.

Wood Half-Elf: Wood Half-Elves are made up of two families, one of which is descended from wood elves and the other from humans. They are swift on their feet despite without getting any additional ability boosts.

Halfling

With the exception of stature, halflings are essentially human in appearance. Imagine them as a hobbit. They have a strong work ethic and value simplicity. Because halflings move quickly, they were given a +2 Dexterity bonus. There are two distinct halfling subraces:

Lightfoot Halfling: These halflings are heavy travellers and swift on their feet. They are therefore more adept at using stealth and can pass stealth checks. This subclass also grants Halflings an additional +1 charisma.

Strongheart Halfling: These Halflings are tough because of their dwarven ancestry. The Stronghearts are hence highly durable and poison resistant. This subclass offers a +1 constitution in addition.

Gnome

Another diminutive race found in the Baldur's Gate 3 universe is the gnome. Gnomes are slower than the other two little creature races because of their sluggish locomotion. They are an intelligent race, nevertheless, with a +2-intellect rating. There are three distinct subraces of gnomes:

Deep Gnome: Deep Gnomes coexist with Drows in the Underdark. They can conduct skilled stealth because they live in the dark and can therefore appear better in the dark. Deep Gnomes also receive a +1-dexterity bonus.

Gnomes from the forest are far more solitary and smaller than their relatives, making them uncommon in Faerun. They are experts in both magic and workmanship, though. Darkvision and dexterity are increased by one for Deep Gnomes.

The most prevalent gnome in Faerun is the rock gnome. They are resilient and drawn to metals. Rock Gnomes also have a +1 constitution.

Half-Orc

One of the announced new races for Baldur's Gate 3's 1.0 release is the half-orc. Despite the fact that their name suggests they are half-human and half-orc from birth, the character's history and statistics won't be available until the game's premiere.

Dragonheart

Dragonheart is a new race that will be included in Baldur's Gate 3's 1.0 release. The essential information will be available on the launch day. They are a highly anticipated race that was confirmed last month.
